OutLine Aotearoa (formerly OUTline NZ)

On this page

Our 0800 support line and online instant-messaging chat service are both answered by LGBTIQA+/Rainbow identifying peers who are trained to provide information to others in topics around sexual identity, gender identity and diverse sex characteristics. The phoneline and chat service are both free, confidential and all-ages. We are here to support Rainbow or questioning people, as well as their whānau, friends and supporters.

Our Transgender Peer Support Service supports transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse Aucklanders and their whānau to access support, information and a sense of community. This service is free for people aged 28 years and older who live in the wider Auckland region (former Auckland, Waitematā and Counties Manukau District Health Board areas).

We work closely with RainbowYOUTH who support gender-diverse people aged 27 and younger in Auckland, and people of all ages in Northland.

We also offer face-to-face counselling by qualified counsellors in Auckland or via videoconferencing in other parts of the country.

0800 info line and webchat service - free

Call us on 0800 OUTLINE (0800 688 5463) or visit https://outline.org.nz/chat/ any evening between 6pm and 9pm to talk to a trained volunteer from the LGBTIQ+ community.

It’s free & confidential. Leave a message if we can’t answer and we can call you back.

We’re here if you want to talk about rainbow identities and lives. We focus on topics around sexuality, gender, and diverse sex characteristics, as well as rainbow people’s life experiences.

We welcome calls and chats from people who are questioning their sexuality or gender, LGBTIQA+/rainbow people, their friends, whānau and colleagues, or professionals who work with rainbow people as clients or customers.

Please note this is not a phone counselling or crisis service.

    Counselling service

OutLine offers specialist face-to-face and video counselling with experienced professionally qualified counsellors.

Our clients come from rainbow communities, or their families and also anyone questioning sexuality or gender. We are specialists in gender and sexuality issues, but have the skills and training to work effectively with you on most life issues. We can work collaboratively with other agencies to achieve your goals.

OutLine works with most clients for a 6-week focused therapeutic process, following an initial assessment. You and your counsellor agree a plan of issues to address in sessions, as well as work out a cost you can afford. OutLine assists you to complete applications for Work and Income funding, where applicable.

OutLine’s face-to-face counselling is professional and ethically sound. Our counsellors follow best practice in clinical supervision and ongoing upskilling.

Counselling clients can come to our Central Auckland counselling office for face-to-face sessions, or access counselling via video conferencing from anywhere in the country.
