Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Southern Maternity Services

In the Southern region, which covers from Oamaru south, women have a number of options of where they can give birth and spend their postnatal stay.

Your pregnancy is unique, we look forward to you having a positive birthing experience within Southern maternity care.

You can decide where you want to give birth – at home, in a local primary maternity unit, or at a base hospital. For some women, your midwife or obstetrician will recommend that you give birth at Queen Mary Hospital in Dunedin, which offers highly specialised, tertiary-level care.

Learn more about each birthing option by clicking on the blue tiles below.  The information includes the experiences of other women, Frequently Asked Questions and practical information about the different birthing units throughout the district, like where they are located, what the offer, visiting hours and parking.
