A Girl Called Hope

On this page

A Girl Called Hope is passionate about strengthening the resilience, self-esteem and wellbeing of those in Aotearoa. We facilitate Wellbeing courses both online and in-person, to anyone seeking skills and tools to strengthen their wellbeing.  For those who would prefer a supported journey to strengthening their wellbeing, our "Pathways to Hope" service model provides the opportunity for a Tailored Pathway where participants work with a Wellbeing Coach towards goals that matter to them.

Our Pathways to Hope service model is designed with the belief that all people have the capacity to change, learn and grow.  All courses and programmes are suitable for those 16yrs and over.

Through our holistic wellbeing programmes we provide reflection of one's own journey, learning healthy coping tools, gaining positive life skills, and opportunities to develop healthy connections with others.  We do this by providing a place to heal and strengthen based on the Te Whare Tapa Wha model of health.  Our Wellbeing Skills courses are open to anyone in the community to register; in-person courses are female-only cohort and online courses are open to all.

For those who would prefer a supported journey to strengthening their wellbeing, a Tailored Pathway may suit. This means we work with participants where they are located, towards the wellbeing goals that matter to them.  Those on a Tailored Pathway work with a qualified Wellbeing Coach to formulate their personal wellbeing goals and how to move towards them.  A Tailormade Pathway provides access to our other support services including Online Wellbeing Skills courses, Counselling, Wellbeing Skills short courses and Personal Development courses.  We welcome working alongside any existing support services as part of someone's Tailormade Pathway.

Even if you have no personal connection to God, our desire is that all who engage with us would experience unconditional love and transformative change, resulting in freedom; this is our Christian environment, our kaupapa.  Our practice is informed by evidence-based models and theories such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Mindfulness skills learnt in DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) and the Strength Based approach.

    Staff

We are a multi-disciplinary team with suitable qualifications and experience for the roles undertaken.  The team roles include Programme Manager, Wellbeing Coach, Course Facilitator, Counsellor and Courses Administrator.  Therapeutic staff all engage in regular professional supervision to ensure a high standard of ethical practice.

    Programme

    Online Wellbeing Skills Courses

For those seeking effective tools and tips for improving wellbeing, the Online Wellbeing Skills Courses are designed to build upon every participant’s hauora (wellbeing) resources.  Our organisation’s values are communicated through our commitment to wellbeing and belief that every person is valued, purposed and, above all, has reason to live.

Each topical course is made up of four 90-minute sessions. The courses are interactive and in real-time.  Facilitated by our experienced and qualified team, skills practice is incorporated into each session.  Participants receive a Workbook to support their learning journey.

As part of our community based services these courses are for people who require additional support to remain actively involved with family/whanau, community living, education, employment and self-management of their own wellbeing. These courses also suitable as part of an organisation's staff wellbeing programme.

Each person is supported to determine their own needs and to retain or regain control of their own journey to strengthen their wellbeing.

    Wellbeing Skills Short Courses

Our services are for people who require additional support to remain actively involved with whanau, community living, education, employment and self-management of their own wellbeing. Each person is supported to determine their own needs and to retain or regain control of their own journey to strengthen their wellbeing.

A Wellbeing Skills Short Course is designed to build upon every participant’s existing hauora (wellbeing) resources.  The Course acknowledges that every woman is resourceful and is able to strengthen existing knowledge and add new learning to develop a personal wellbeing toolkit.  Our organisation’s values are communicated through our commitment to wellbeing and belief that every person is valued, purposed and, above all, has reason to live.

The course is a female-only cohort and intended for those who are aware of their personal challenges and are motivated to make changes in their life.  Through the use of safe exposure and experiential learning in a group setting, the course is designed to build resilience and grow confidence in each participant’s capability to tap into their own resourcefulness.

The course utilises Dr Mason Drurie's Te Whare Tapa Whā model of wellbeing as a framework for programme design and takes a solutions-focussed approach to the learning.  It is informed by evidence-based models and theories such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), mindfulness skills learnt in DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) and the Strength Based Approach.

A Wellbeing Skills Short Course takes place on a Thursday and Friday for six weeks at our premises in Albany, North Shore, Auckland.   Applicants are welcome from throughout Aotearoa, with participants responsible for their own accommodation and transport.
