    The District Nursing Service is a community based service providing a wide range of care to patients in their own homes.   

    District Nurses are qualified nurses who meet specific health needs in communities, utilising specialised nursing knowledge and assessment skills.  The services include wound care, palliative care, continence, costomy specialist care and hospital post discharge care.

    The Southland District Nursing Service operates seven days a week and on a needs basis in the rural areas. Nurses support patients in all rural areas i.e Riverton, Winton, Otautau, Nightcaps, Te Anau, Lumsden, Queenstown, Tokanui and Stewart Island.

    Southland Services include Nurse-led clinics at Wyndham, Stewart Island and Tokanui.

    Admission to the Southland service is via referral from hospital or a General Practitioner.

    The Dunedin District Nursing Service provides care to the greater Dunedin area including Palmerston and Middlemarch.

    This service is closely linked to Dunedin hospital to help ensure patients are supported safely in the community after hospital discharge while also maintaining close liaison with local GP practices, Hospice and residential facilities.
