Southern visitors reminded how to get a COVID-19 test

Issue date:

Expecting visitors these holidays? Makes sure they know how to get a COVID-19 test if they need one.

That’s the appeal from Dr Susan Jack, Southern DHB Medical Officer of Health as we prepare to welcome visitors from around the country into our beautiful district.

“All that residents and visitors to the district need to do if they have any flu or cold symptoms is to call 0800 VIRUS 19 (0800 847 8719). This is a call centre operated by WellSouth who will advise on the closest available location for testing,” says Dr Jack.

“Testing is free for anyone with symptoms, no matter where they normally live and anyone with symptoms is urged to stay home (or at their accommodation) until they feel better or receive their test results.”

Posters and flyers promoting the Southern district’s 0800 VIRUS19 call centre as well as information about COVID-19 can be found at www.southernhealth.nz/COVID-19.

The posters have been distributed to businesses and the DHB and WellSouth are asking for them to be used widely.

The messages complement the national campaign ‘Make Summer Unstoppable’ reminding all New Zealanders about the actions we all need to take to keep each other safe while also enjoying a lovely summer break uninterrupted by COVID-19.
