Dr Aisha Paulose new clinical advisor to WellSouth

WellSouth is strengthening its clinical team with the appointment of Winton GP, Dr Aisha Paulose, to a new clinical advisor role.

Workforce development, greater representation of rural general practice, and providing clinical advice to WellSouth staff, are among the areas where Dr Paulose will work with medical director Stephen Graham in this new, part-time role.

Born and brought up in London, Dr Paulose is a graduate of the University College London. She worked as a GP and educator in London and Kent before emigrating to New Zealand in 2015, taking on more than a dozen locums over two years throughout the South Island and Wellington region, and settling in Southland in 2017.

“We kept coming back here because we love it,” she says. “There is a great culture and community

in Southland and I’ve honestly never worked with better people, especially my practice team.”

In addition to her role with Winton Medical Centre and WellSouth, Dr Paulose works for the MCNZ as an assessor, sits on various national board groups, is a Clinical Editor for HealthPathways and has multiple roles with the RNZCGP, including running the Otago and Southland GPEP programme.

Education, collegiality, equity in our healthcare system and telehealth are among her areas of interest.

“It is important to me to help advocate for and ensure the voice of Southland GPs, rural teams and our GPEPs are heard and supported,” she says. “I’m looking forward to working with the WellSouth team and other clinicians across the district.”

Dr Graham says: “I am very pleased that Aisha is joining us. She brings added expertise to the organization and I know she will help me to further advocate for general practice in the district.”

Dr Paulose and her family reside “on a blustery hill” in rural Southland and she could not be happier.
