The theme this year is Pharmacy Strengthening Health Systems.

Southland Hospital has five pharmacists, six pharmacy technicians, two pharmacy assistants and one intern pharmacist.

Dunedin has 18 pharmacists and 10 pharmacy technicians, currently one intern pharmacist and a department secretary. There are also community pharmacists in Queenstown who support clinical reviews at Lakes Hospital.

Pharmacy Service Manager Craig MacKenzie says he is lucky to lead two amazing hospital pharmacy teams.

“The difference Pharmacy staff make to patients and other health professionals is significant and this year on World Pharmacy Day, please take time to speak to the wonderful Pharmacy staff in your area to ask them about what other amazing contributions they can make to continue to strengthen our health system.”

Devon, a proud Southlander, loves his job and being part of the team making a difference.

“We work on the wards, we do a lot of problem solving with medications, we’re on call, we sort out supplies and get to work with a lot of multi-disciplinary teams within the hospital.”

Hannah is in her final year of training prior to obtaining her full registration.

“I love the variety that every day brings and the ability to make a difference in patients understanding their medicines.”

Please wish our amazing staff a happy “World Pharmacy Day” today.
