Dental and Oral health

Good oral health is an important part of staying well.

Oral health services at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Southern focus on getting your children’s oral health off to a good start, addressing the needs of those at greatest risk of poor oral health, and creating the conditions for good oral health.

Watch to find out why your child's first teeth are important and how to care for them. Debbie, a dental therapist, talks to Renee and Dez about caring for their son's teeth, including brushing teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and eating healthy food. Watch as Renee brushes Aidan's teeth.

Thanks to the Minstry of Health NZ

We also ensure strong links between oral health services and other health care so that oral health is promoted, improved, maintained and, where necessary, restored at the earliest opportunity.

This is in line with the Ministry of Health vision for an environment that promotes oral health, whether through fluoridated water, a healthy diet, or publicly funded services where they are most needed.
