Living with dementia

Being diagnosed with a new illness or condition can be difficult. This includes being diagnosed with dementia.

It can be a time of uncertainty and worry for you and your family/whanau and friends. You are not alone - almost 70,000 Kiwis are living with dementia today (Alzheimers.org.nz). There is a lot of support and information available to you and those around you, to help you remain as independent as possible and enjoy life. Supporting a person with Alzheimers or Dementia often involves a number of people. You may be providing support on a daily basis, or less often. There is a range of information and services that can help you to support your loved one. You may find it useful to just read information and get ideas on what works for you, or it may be useful to link with other people who are facing similar challenges or get hands-on help with daily tasks.
