Burials and cremations

Disposal of the dead must occur in a controlled, hygienic and dignified manner which, as far as possible, demonstrates respect for the wishes, as well as the cultural beliefs, of the deceased and next of kin.

Health Protection Officers maintain surveillance of, and provide information and advice to ensure the appropriate application of the relevant burial and cremation legislation. This usually entails but is not limited to collating information in the processes of disinterment and burials in a special place.
