    We are part of the wider Salvation Army, therefore we have many services that support us such as budgeting advice, food banks and social work. See the Salvation Army website for more information.

    Staff

    Our services are staffed by qualified counsellors with expertise in supporting people with gambling related problems.

    Programme

    Gambling Support

    The Salvation Army Oasis provides free and confidential support, education and counselling for those affected by gambling harm, as well as their whanau / family and others affected.

    Our integrated approach motivates and empowers people affected by gambling and associated problems to make positive choices for a healthy lifestyle.

    The Salvation Army Oasis aims to help you:

    • understand underlying reasons contributing to harmful gambling
    • stop or reduce the frequency of harmful gambling
    • develop strategies to reduce harmful gambling behaviour
    • tackle related issues that may also cause harm or damage
    • have a productive, healthy life without harmful gambling 

    Face-to-face counselling involves:

    • prompt and efficient response to needs
    • comprehensive assessment
    • ongoing counselling
    • 'affected other’ counselling
    • couples’ counselling
    • and whanau / family therapy

    Group participation involves:

    • support groups, on a needs basis
    • education groups, by request

    Referrals:

    We also make referrals to specialist services who offer information and advice (including legal and budgeting advice) as well as crisis intervention (legal, financial, relationship and/or psychological).

    Multi Venue Exclusion

    We can discuss with clients whether self exclusion from gambling venues would be a suitable option for them to consider. Our staff will work with you to complete a Request for Multi Venue Exclusion or alternatively support you to self exclude from any gambling venue in person.

    We also have a Multi Venue Exclusion Coordinator at our Salvation Army Oasis service who is available to answer any queries regarding exclusions. For individuals outside Dunedin, please call to discuss how we can support you.
