Emergency Department - Dunedin Hospital | Southern

On this page

    Emergency departments are for emergencies.

For all emergencies dial 111 from any New Zealand phone or mobile. For mental health emergencies, please call emergency psychiatric services at any time on 0800 46 78 46.

Emergency departments (EDs) treat people who have a serious illness or injury that requires urgent attention.

Patients may be referred to an ED by their doctor/GP, the ambulance service or they may refer themselves.

If you are uncertain how serious an injury or illness is, call your GP, or the Healthline on freephone 0800 611 116 for advice. Healthline is a free, 24 hour a day telephone health advice service.

Healthline registered nurses assess a person's condition and health needs and recommend the best course of action.
