Aged Residential Care

On this page

The decision to move to an aged residential care facility is a significant life change, which can affect an older person's wider community and family. Across the Southern district are a wide range of high quality aged care facilities that specialise in accommodation and support for older people.

The list of aged care facilities, and their vacancies, are available on Eldernet

All rest homes and aged residential care facilities are certified and audited to ensure they:

    • provide safe, appropriate care for their residents
    • meet the standards set out in the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001.

The Ministry of Health publishes audit reports for all rest homes in its database of certified rest home providers.

Eldernet also provides an A-Z list of updated services that concern older people's health, including transport options and in-home care providers. This can help older people and their families make more informed decisions around the care they need and the additional services that are available to them.
