Farmgate tour builds on success

Issue date:

A second farmgate vaccination tour this week is again all about making the COVID-19 vaccination as accessible as possible to Southland’s smaller communities.

Driven by Gore and Southland District Councils, and their respective mayors Tracy Hicks and Gary Tong, the first tour in early November saw close to 400 people receive a Covid-19 vaccination in Southland. Both mayors will again be towing caravans around the province, accompanied by Southern Health staff, delivering vaccinations to our smaller, more isolated communities. No appointment is needed. There is even the chance to win a daily draw for a $100 Prezzy card by filling in a form.

Southern DHB COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout Programme Lead Karl Metzler says the second farmgate vaccination tour is again aiming to make a vaccination as accessible as possible to Southland’s smaller communities.

“It is important farmers and farm workers get vaccinated to help ensure the continued operation of farms – obviously taking time off on a farm isn’t easy. With this tour we want to make it as straightforward as possible for rural people to protect themselves and their community.”

People needing their first or second doses are encouraged to attend. Anyone is welcome to have a chat with clinical staff before getting a vaccination.

Mr Metzler thanks the two councils and mayors Hicks and Tong for their great support of the vaccination effort
