Well-being Support in Central-Lakes

Campaign type:

The Central Lakes community is facing real challenges at the moment, and the whole community is working together to provide people with the support they need.

If you need help, reach out. There is support for you. It is natural and understandable to have a range of emotions at this time, and these may go up and down. This is normal and you are not alone.

If you, or someone close to you, is in crisis

  • Call or text 1737 for free counselling, anytime
    OR
  • Call the Southern DHB Crisis Mental Health Emergency Service - 0800 467 846

If you are concerned about the immediate safety of someone please call 111 and request police assistance.

Virtual and telephone support

Call or text 1737 for free counselling, anytime. There are also many excellent resources available online, for example on the Mental Health Foundation website, and platforms such as AllRight.org.nz

Support in the community

Queenstown Lakes District Council has established the Kia Kaha Queenstown Lakes Hub to provide support and information about a wide range of issues, including welfare and immigration. The hub is currently planned to be in place for at least the weeks ahead and information can be found on the QLDC website here.

We know that there are people in Queenstown concerned they are not eligible for free health care – the Hub can help connect you with resources and we encourage anyone with concerns to access the services and advice available there. Further information about possible short-term financial support can also be found through the Red Cross here.

Southern DHB has a staff liaison with the Kia Kaha hub team to assist people, particularly those unfamiliar with the New Zealand health system, to access services.
